Prescription Assistance Program
The Community Action Agency's Prescription Program (PAP) seeks to aid those who have exhausted all other sources for help with medication. Most drug manufacturers provide patient assistance programs offering free medication to qualified individuals who cannot afford to purchase expensive prescriptions. However, the procedures required for an individual to apply, be approved and receive free medication are so involved that many qualified people never successfully complete the process. Further, the vast majority of qualified patients are not aware of these patient assistance programs. Through PAP, CAA organizes participation from local physician's offices and assists clients with the application process to the pharmaceutical companies. We maintain a centralized database to track clients and their re-application dates (generally every three months) to ensure clients do not run out of their prescription.
CAA provides this service to uninsured residents of St. Clair County ranging from 19 to 59 years of age who require long-term prescription medication. St. Clair County Council on Aging assists those individuals 60 years and older. When possible, CAA will also help with information regarding Medicaid and Medicare.
